5 REASONS TO NOT USE ALPHA KEEPERS
Reason #5 – You Have a Unwavering Right to Freshness.
That’s right. This is America and you are entitled to so many things, chief amongst them is the right to freshness. If you want some perfume or cologne, you go out and buy it. If you don’t have any money (or maybe you have money and just don’t want to spend it), you steal it. If you’re a store that sells what I need to stay fresh, I can’t steal from you if your protect fragrance with some sort of security non-sense. You wouldn’t stifle my right to free speech, so don’t try to limit my ability to steal some cologne with your Alpha Keeper madness!
Reason #4 – You Owe Your Employees a Freebie Once in a While.
A paycheck and steady income is not enough these days. Your employees have a right to steal from you, whether you like it or not. You can’t possibly think you can limit their financial gains, can you? One of the best gifts you can get yourself is some cologne or perfume. As a retailer, you need to allow your employees to just take whatever they want, whenever they want it. Don’t you even think about using alpha keepers for those pricey bottles of smell good solution? That would just stop your employees from stealing it! What’s even worse is if they can’t steal it from you, they just might quit and go to another company where it’s easier to steal!
Reason #3 – Can You Really Trust Something That Can be Reused?
Look, there really has to be a “one and done” mentality when it comes to ways to protect fragrance. I don’t know about you, but I don’t trust anything that doesn’t break the first time I use it. Are Alpha Keepers made of some sort of governmentally created super plastic? Do you really want something that durable and long-lasting in your store? Who knows what’s really inside. I’d much rather just place my stock of cologne and perfume on the shelf and rely solely on the honor system than to use an Alpha Keeper that’s going to give me a return on investment.
Reason #2 – You Actually Want a Small Percentage of Criminals in Your Store for Street Credit.
Everyone knows that if you want higher foot traffic, you have to get celebrities, professional athletes and other infamous figures to get caught shop(lifting) in your store. Just think about what Winona did for 5th Avenue stock! Wouldn’t you want that kind of exposure in your store? Wouldn’t it be great for sales if Christina came in one day and just boosted the mess out of her perfume line? You’re not going to get the attention you deserve if you do something crazy like protect fragrance with some simple security measure.
Reason #1 – It’s Too Hard and Time Consuming to Use Simple Plastic Boxes
Seriously though. What do you really expect out of your team? Can you really expect them to go through the arduous task of opening an Alpha Keeper, placing the fragrance in the box and then putting it all the way back on the shelf every single time? That’s like three whole steps that will probably take AT LEAST 15 seconds. People have lives and can’t be bothered with such routine tasks in the work place, no matter how much money it could save you. Your employees have better things to do, like check their social media accounts and hold long personal conversations with other employees. I mean it is your fault anyway if fragrances are stolen; you’re the one that made the decision to carry a high theft item, not them, right?

Retail Anti-Theft Devices-3
Protect Electronics-5
Don’t Restrict The Use Of Alpha Keepers To Only High Dollar Goods.
I work in a small office supply store and so I see merchandise protection strategies that are in place, and some are really good. Our store uses an electronic article surveillance (EAS) system to detect merchandise that someone may attempt to walk out the door without paying for the goods. We use Alpha products to protect ink, toner, headphones, etc. One thing we don’t use enough in my opinion are Alpha Keepers to protect electronics. Don’t misunderstand, we use them but since I spent many years in retail Loss Prevention, I see what I consider missed opportunities. We use keepers to prevent shoplifting of jump drives, and SD cards but we don’t use them on products that can be just as expensive as these, items such as hdmi cords. Within the electronics category we also protect some of our printer inkjet cartridges, but not all of them. So what is it that is the determining factor if something should be locked up using Alpha Keepers?
Before we go on to address that question it only makes sense to have a conversation about what Alpha Keepers are and how they function. Keeper boxes come in a variety of shapes and sizes but they do share a few things in common. The boxes are all clear so a customer can see through them and view whatever contents the Keeper is holding. As retail anti-theft devices the Keepers protect electronics merchandise with tamper resistant locking lids and EAS technology. An attempt to walk out of a store with EAS antennas at the entrance and EAS protected merchandise hidden under clothing or in a purse causes the antenna alarm to trip. Quick response to these alarms significantly improves your odds of getting the merchandise back. It is also possible that if a would-be shoplifter starts to leave with merchandise, the alarm activation may scare the thief into dropping the merchandise still resulting in a recovery and profit to the bottom line.
What is the determining factor of what should be locked up? It really comes down to what a store wants to do with their system. The place I work has most jump drives secured in Alpha Boxes and yet, there are those below a specific dollar threshhold that do not get secured. I am opposed to this strategy. Why set a price point as the means for determining what you are going to protect? I would be more supportive of a strategy that places anything that can fit into it, inside a Keeper box. We have inserts or pictures of some items such as hard drives that are placed into boxes rather than trusting the EAS system and the retail anti-theft devices to protect the products we want to sell. Looking at it with my Loss Prevention hat on, I believe we are not using the system to its fullest potential. One of the benefits of utilizing Keepers to protect electronics is that merchandise is available for a customer to pick up and take to a register without waiting for an employee to unlock a showcase or search a stockroom. Sales are shown to improve when customers don’t have to wait to get service.
Investing in Alpha Keepers to protect electronics makes sense because it is cost effective for a store. Once purchased Keepers are used over and over again. There is no need for continuous purchase of new Keepers. They also take up little additional room to protect the merchandise so there is minimal impact on the amount of product that can be displayed. I encourage store owners to use retail anti-theft devices to prevent shoplifting but I would especially encourage the use of Alpha Keepers to protect electronics. You are sure to drive up sales while lowering your shortage.

Empty Shelves Of Infant Formula Starving Your Profits? Prevent Shoplifting With Alpha Keepers; Part 2
Retailers are experiencing serious theft issues with infant formula, leaving them with empty shelves and lost profits. It is also hurting those families who are in need of purchasing formula but finding shelves wiped out. There are two significant causes behind the losses. In part 1 I discussed the theft of formula by family members who may be financially strapped, have need of the product but don’t feel they have the resources to purchase the products. I was clear in my assertion that this does not justify shoplifting, especially with so many resources available, from government supplemental benefits to private charitable organizations. Whatever the reasons, some people still feel the “need” to steal and therefore merchants must protect infant formula from theft. The second major cause of theft of infant formula is Organized Retail Crime and the black market for stolen formula. It is this element I want to address in part 2 of this series and how Alpha Keepers can prevent shoplifting of infant formula by these criminals.
Infant formula Alpha Keepers are retail anti-theft devices designed specifically to protect canned powdered baby foods. The Keepers are solid, polycarbonate boxes with a locking hinged lid created to prevent shoplifting of baby formula. The box is see through so customers can see the merchandise and read all the important information they need regarding the product. In order to get to the contents, the Keeper has to be opened with a special detachment tool, usually maintained at the store point of sale. They are built to cause electronic article surveillance antennas to alarm when they come into the vicinity of the antenna, thereby deterring even the most determined of shoplifters. Unlike a display case, there is no wait time incurred by the customer who wants to purchase a can of formula but has to wait for an employee with a key to unlock the cabinet. This leads to increased sales for the store. Often customers will leave a store without making a purchase if they are forced to wait for service. Alpha Keepers prevent shoplifting while providing access to product for shoppers.
I mentioned there is another driving force behind the need to protect infant formula, and that is the threat from the black market. People are stealing infant formula and then selling it over the internet or they are selling to small “Mom and Pop” shops which pay for stolen merchandise at ridiculously low prices. Those stores resell it at a profit, though lower than the price in a larger retail establishment. In a report on wate.com, on 6/11/2015, “3 Knox County consignment shops raided for selling stolen baby formula; 5 people charged” the station reported on three businesses that were purchasing stolen baby formula and selling it on the black market. The lead investigator Captain George Edlund was interviewed and spoke of how the businesses were purchasing the stolen cans of formula valued at roughly $25-$40 on the retail market, paying $7-$8 a can and reselling it at about twice that price. The theft and resale on the black market makes it difficult for legitimate retailers to compete. It also supports criminal shoplifting activity. http://wate.com/2015/06/11/knox-county-deputies-hold-news-conference-at-wee-care-shop/
Even worse than the illicit resale market of infant formula is the possibility terrorists are being funded by Organized Retail Theft of the merchandise. In a 5/13/2014 report, “8 on Your Side: Baby formula rings may fund terrorist groups”, on 8LasVegasNow.com, writer Michelle Mortenson reported on how groups stealing infant formula are funneling money overseas to people or groups with possible links to terrorism. Quoting Organized Retail Theft Investigator Darin Fredrickson, “Some of the baby formula theft has funded terrorism efforts overseas”. Her report goes on to say, “In 2005, federal authorities busted a terrorist ring that was selling formula on the black market. The ring had potential links to HAMAS and Hezbollah.” http://www.lasvegasnow.com/news/8-on-your-side-baby-formula-rings-may-fund-terrorist-groups
This isn’t simply a family trying to feed a child, this activity has life and death consequences and reinforces the need for stores to protect infant formula from shoplifting.
As a store owner your concern is to sell merchandise and do it profitably. The threats to your business are real. Whether it is Organized Retail Theft rings or small time shoplifters that are stealing, the theft of infant formula from your store can dramatically hurt profits. Use Alpha Keepers to prevent shoplifting and protect infant formula. Your store will benefit and who knows, so may the world.

Alpha Keepers Protect Some Of Our Consumer’s Favorite Products
When did everything become so expensive? I don’t get out much or shop for things that are a luxury, so to speak, as I am a pretty simple girl. I don’t typically buy high priced cosmetics, or perfume and my family isn’t much into video games or other expensive toys, so I am a little out of the loop when it comes to pricing. Seriously though, I was out shopping and couldn’t help but be set aback by some of the prices for these types of items. When I was a kid everything was so much simpler and much cheaper. I can remember going to the corner store with three quarters, I found in the couch, to buy some penny candy. Seventy-five pieces of candy later I was in sugar heaven. Everything back then was cheaper, but as time continues to age us, it also continues to weaken the good old American dollar. While shopping I began to realize how inflation has dramatically affected the way retailers do business. High priced items are now a high liability for store owners, because loss creates such a substantial impact on their profit margin. Because of my loss prevention background, and my ability to understand the impact shoplifting has on the economy as a whole, I am a strong proponent of utilizing Alpha Keepers to protect your high valued items from theft.
Alpha Keepers are used by businesses to protect cosmetics, electronics, videogames and other high priced items. Perfume for example, can run anywhere, between $60.00-$100.00, depending on the brand. Gaming Keepers secure video games, which on average are at least $60.00 or more, and the game stations run about $300.00. Heck, even razors these days are $30.00. If you figure a store owner makes on average 10% profit on sales, then losing a $300 Xbox, is a significant loss that will take $3000 in sales to make up for. Keepers are typically made of a clear hard plastic that is used to encase the item to prevent shoplifting. They are difficult to remove and will sound an alarm if someone tries to remove the merchandise from the store. They are designed so the product can be displayed while providing a visual deterrent. I am sure you have seen these at some point during your shopping experience. They can also be used to protect beauty products, such as anti-aging face creams and serums, cosmetics, and other beauty items. These types of products are so popular that they independently make up an entire market, in which a single lip stain can cost upwards of $28.00. Alpha Keepers are the best way to prevent shoplifting of these and other high priced items. The impact of shoplifting, not only hurts the business owner, but it also hurts the consumer when prices are increased to cover the cost of a loss prevention program and loss of inventory.
For me, raising prices is really not ideal, since costs are already high for some of my favorite items. As a consumer I actually appreciate the business owner’s desire to mitigate their risk and prevent shoplifting. Alpha Keepers are a great means to secure your property and do not create an inconvenience to the customer. They are user friendly and are easily removed at the time of purchase. They are cost efficient retail security devices that can serve multiple purposes when it comes to securing high valued items. They help to protect high valued items such as video games, DVDs, CDs, and beauty products. The multi-use keepers come in various shapes and sizes to prevent shoplifting in your business.

LPC-3 , LP ROI Calculator-3 , Can LP Be Free?-3
Are Loss Prevention Tools Worth The Cost?
In the retail world you have to deal with theft. Some people do it for the thrill of it, just to see if they can get away with it. Some people steal because they feel entitled. Others do it because of a real or perceived need. So you purchase some tools, like a Checkpoint System or some offerings from Alpha Technology. But, how do you know that what you are buying is actually worth it? I have an easy solution for you. There is a loss prevention calculator available for you to utilize and figure up the return on your investment. Can loss prevention be free? You have to buy what you need, but it can easily and quickly pay for itself.
Let’s work up some comparisons:
With a Checkpoint System- A woman comes in shopping for some wrinkle cream. She really wants it but it’s not in her budget. She decides she has been a loyal customer long enough, and your store actually owes her this one. She drops it in her purse and approaches the front door, and suddenly she hears:BING! BING! BING!.. “We’re sorry; you have activated our inventory control system” She panics and hands it to your cashier, claiming it must have fell in her purse by accident.
Without a Checkpoint System- Same scenario, except she walks out the door undetected, smiling and waving at your cashier that never suspected that regular customer just ripped off the store.
You don’t need a loss prevention ROI calculator to know you just lost about $50.
With Alpha Keepers- A shoplifting duo comes in the store. They have been sent by a vendor at your local flea market. They were told to scout stores and steal as many packs of razor refill cartridges as they could get. When they walk into your well stocked shaving section, they immediately see all of your packages are encased in Alpha Keepers. They turn around and walk back out empty handed. (The loss prevention calculator would tell you: you just saved about $800-$1,000.)
Without Alpha Keepers-Same scenario, but the two of them loaded up the bags they carried in and when your cashier got distracted with another customer, they ran out the door and your shelves are now empty.
With Bottle Locks-A teenager comes in to steal a bottle of wine. He was dared to do it and he is sure he is slick enough to get away with it. He sees all the bottles have locking caps on them. He attempts to remove the one from the bottle he chose and it starts alarming. He quickly puts it back on the shelf and gets out the door as fast as he can.
Without Bottle Locks- He puts the bottle up the sleeve of his hoodie and slips out the door before your clerk ever noticed he was in the store. Can loss prevention be free? Was your inventory of wine and spirits free? Wouldn’t it be worth protecting?
Use the loss prevention ROI calculator and plug in the numbers. How much inventory did you buy and how much did you sell? How much is left on your shelves? If you are posting a “shrink”, you need help. Find out how fast an investment in some real solutions could pay you back with the loss prevention calculator. So, I’ll ask you one more time..can loss prevention be free? It can be if it stops your valuable merchandise from being stolen.
Return on investment is important. Let us help you figure it out. Contact us or call 1.770.426.0547

With Alpha Keepers– A shoplifting duo comes in the store.
Without Bottle Locks– He puts the bottle up the sleeve of his hoodie and slips out the door before your clerk ever noticed he was in the store. Can loss prevention be free? Was your inventory of wine and spirits free? Wouldn’t it be worth protecting?
